SUMMARY:Fredericksburg - Prescribed Burn Manager Training
DESCRIPTION:FREDERICKSBURG — The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service’s Prescribed Burn Manager Training will be held May 29-31 in Fredericksburg. \n\nThe training will be at the AgriLife Extension office for Gillespie County\, 95 Frederick Road. \nThe course will be open to the public\, but preregistration is required by May 24. Cost is $250. Preregister by emailing or calling Dr. Morgan Treadwell\, AgriLife Extension range specialist\, at morgan.treadwell@tamu.edu or 325-657-7317. \n“This three-day burn school is unique and the first of its kind in many ways\,” said Treadwell.  “First\, the school is made possible by the Bennett Trust Stewardship\, managed by Dr. Larry Redmon\, which is dedicated to conservation education and preservation of the Edwards Plateau. Second\, this school will feature a host of outstanding guest lecturers who are all experts in their respective fields.” \nThere will be a field day part of the course\, which will require students to demonstrate an ability to safely participate in a prescribed burn. \nLimited seating is available and priority will be given to students who meet the experience requirements for Texas Department of Agriculture certification. Students who pass the final exam will meet the education requirements for becoming a TDA certified and insured prescribed burn manager in Region 2\, West Texas. \nAdditional requirements for certification include three years of prescribed burning experience in the West Texas region; 30 days of prescribed burning experience in any region;  five days of prescribed burning as the responsible individual; and a qualifying insurance policy\, https://tinyurl.com/y3bxt4s. \nSpeakers will include Dr. Butch Taylor\, Texas A&M AgriLife Research\, retired\, Sonora; Dr. Heath Starns\,  AgriLife Research\, Sonora; Ray Hinnant\, AgriLife Research\, College Station; Mark Moseley\, Natural Resources Conservation Service\, retired\, San Antonio; and Wesley Evans\, Texas Parks and Wildlife\, Mason.
