SUMMARY:Online - River Reflections: Coahuiltecan Creation Story
DESCRIPTION:Dr. Mario Garza is an elder of the Miakan/Garzas Band of the Coahuiltecan\, a state-legislature-recognized tribe of Texas. He earned a multi-disciplinary Ph.D. from Michigan State University in Social Science\, with areas of concentration in Sociology\, Political Science and Social Work. He has been active in graves protection and repatriation since 1991 participating in reburial ceremonies at the Comanche Cemetery in Fort Hood\, Texas including two Coahuiltecan reburials. Dr. Garza currently lives in San Marcos\, Texas near the sacred springs that archeologists believe to be the oldest\, continuously inhabited site in North America. \nJoin us as we learn about the identity and ancestral legacy of the Coahuiltecans and their relationship with water\, presented by Dr. Garza and the Indigenous Cultures Institute. \nClick here to learn more and register for free.

This virtual walk will begin at the trailhead in Zilker Park and follow the Barton Creek Greenbelt section of the Violet Crown Trail south toward the 360 trailhead.
