SUMMARY:New Braunfels - CCCA Community Program on “The Four Fountain Springs of Texas” with Mr. Gary Perez\, Indigenous Cultures Storyteller
DESCRIPTION:Click to view full-size flyer. \nAs a member of the Coahuiltecan/Pakajua “Painted Peoples” of Coahuila Mexico and Texas\, Gary Perez is well-versed in the culture and traditions of these indigenous peoples whose history pre-dates the Spanish explorers by thousands of years.  These are the original peoples of our area and they\, and their artwork\, have much to teach us. \nThe “White Shaman” mural is one such piece of artwork – a cave-painting above the Pecos River near Del Rio that reaches 26’ wide and 13’ tall. In the mural\, Gary could see depictions of the ceremonies of his people and what seemed to be a map of the area. He knew he had found a message meant to guide the generations that followed. Among the landscape features depicted\, Gary was the first to recognize the four major springs of the Balcones Escarpment\, displayed with amazing geographically accurate spacing. \nJoin us to hear Gary tell the story of the White Shaman and the Four Fountain Springs known to us today as the San Antonio Springs\, Comal Springs\, San Marcos Springs\, and Barton Springs. \nLearn more at https://www.comalconservation.org/
