DESCRIPTION:Six Easy Star Hunting Steps\n\n 	During the campaign dates\, go outside more than an hour after sunset (8-10 pm local time). The Moon should not be up. Let your eyes become used to the dark for 10 minutes before your first observation.\n 	Use a night sky app on your phone outside to find the constellation from where you are.\n 	Go to the Globe at Night Report page to start to enter Globe at Night measurements. Make sure you are in “Nighttime version”\n 	With a smart phone\, the app will put in the date\, time\, location (latitude/longitude) automatically. Otherwise please type them in. For your location\, type the street address closest to your observation along with the city\, state or province and country.\n 	Choose the star chart that looks most closely to what you see toward your constellation. SUMMARY:Albert - Hillside Stewardship: Understanding and Managing Erosion
DESCRIPTION:Join us at the Hilliard Ranch in Albert\, Texas\, to learn new ways to read\, study\, and steward the land. Dr. Mollie Walton will lead the field day. She is a restoration ecologist with a Texas ranching background and nearly 30 years of hands-on restoration work across the Southwest. This workshop is specifically designed for private landowners contending with erosion issues on their property. \nWe will spend the day outside\, walking to several sites on the ranch to discuss erosional processes\, how to interpret them\, and how to be most effective in managing erosion to increase the health and productivity of your land. Several scenarios will be explored\, related to ranch roads\, culverts\, and hillsides. \nA light lunch and printed educational materials will be provided. The entrance fee is $6 per person ages 13 and up; kids 12 and under are free; or free with an annual Texas State Parks Pass (pass holder and everyone in the vehicle). If you arrive after hours and do not have an existing day-use permit\, please use the self-pay station in front of the headquarters building to pay your entrance fee(s) in cash.\n\nWhen: We will get started right after sunset.\n\nWhere: Meet us at the group lodge located at the end of the approximately 2-mile road\, north of the headquarters building.\n\n All ages are welcome. DESCRIPTION:On the 2nd Friday of every month\, the members of the Austin Astronomical Society gather virtually for their general meeting and presentations.\n \nThis gathering is open to the general public\, and more information can be found on our website. http://austinastro.org/ Our general meeting includes officer reports\, updates on upcoming outreach events\, and a favorite segment\, What’s Happening in Astronomy.\n \nOur general meeting will begin at 7:30 and starting with our guest presenter\, the general meeting to follow.\n \nOur Speaker this month is Bettymaya Foott\, Director of Engagement with the International Dark-Sky Association. In honor of Hill Country Night Sky Month\, Ms. Foott will present “The Power of Light.”\n \nBettymaya grew up in Moab\, Utah. She graduated from the University of Utah Honors Program with an H.B.S. in Environmental and Sustainability Studies and a Minor in Spanish Language. She wrote a thesis entitled “Light pollution hazards within ecosystems and mitigation strategies for the future.” Her dark sky career began with working for Utah State Parks as a Dark Sky Intern and then seasonal employee\, starting 12 International Dark-Sky Park Applications across the state. She then worked as Coordinator for the Colorado Plateau Dark Sky Cooperative and the Consortium for Dark Sky Studies at the University of Utah. When off the clock\, Foott loves to practice night sky photography. Preserving dark skies is her life goal\, and she is incredibly excited to continue this journey of saving the stars!
