WVWA will be hosting a fundraiser event and kick off for Amplify Austin day of giving from 4pm- 8pm on Thursday\, 02/28 at the Shady Llama in Wimberley\, where a portion of all food & drinks sold will be contributed to the Save The Hill Country legal defense fund. You can also donate online at: bit.ly/SAVETHEHILLCOUNTRY and learn more about their efforts at wimberleywatershed.org. \nThis is a free and fun event for everyone affected by the Pipeline to network\, learn more and fundraise for WVWA’s Legal Defense Fund as they prepare to fight Kinder Morgan. \nThe pipeline is slated to be constructed 1400 feet from the Shady Llama! You can see the route clearly from their beautiful venue. \nShady Llama Beer Garden has graciously offered to contribute $2 of every drink sold to the cause! They serve local Texas beers and wines. Visitors will have the opportunity to explore a cave and see how water makes its way to the aquifer and Barton Springs\, learn about animals that call Austin’s caves home\, try on caving gear\, and learn how to protect and conserve Austin’s water resources. \n\nTour Wildflower Cave or LaCrosse Cave\nCrawl through CaveSim\, realistic artificial cave with interactive electronic formations\, fauna\, and artifacts\nExplore the Children’s Art Cave\nHike to a sinkhole\nEnjoy a rockin’ Barton Springs Salamander puppet show by local children’s musicians\nLearn more about caves through hands-on activities\nEnjoy live music\n\nAustin Cave Festival is hosted by the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center\, the Barton Springs Edwards Aquifer Conservation District\, and the City of Austin (Austin Parks and Recreation Department; Austin Water Wildland Conservation Division and Watershed Protection Department). \nIn addition to caving\, there will be lots of indoor and outdoor activities to choose from\, so the event will be held rain or shine! \nAustin Cave Festival Cave Tours (for ages 4+) \nJoin experts from City of Austin Watershed Protection and Wildlands for tours of La Crosse Cave and Wildflower Cave to explore the underground world and learn what critters live there\, how water enters the cave and travels through the Edwards Aquifer\, and how actions in the recharge zone affect water quality at Barton Springs. Wear closed-toe shoes and clothes you can get muddy and bring clean clothes/shoes to change into afterwards. Helmets\, headlamps and additional cave gear will be provided. If safety gear does not fit or is not worn\, participant will not be permitted into cave. Children must be accompanied by an adult. \nLaCrosse Cave and Wildflower Cave both require some stooping and crawling to explore. In some places you’ll be able to stand or sit comfortably. \nAustin Cave Festival will be hosted by the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center\, the Barton Springs Edwards Aquifer Conservation District\, and the City of Austin (Austin Water Wildland Conservation Division; Watershed Protection Department).

Johnson National Historical Park to celebrate the holiday season at “Christmas Through the Years in LBJ Country” on Saturday\, December 8\, in Johnson City\, Texas. Featuring the music of recording artist John Arthur Martinez and many family-friendly activities\, the event will run from 6:00 to 9:00 pm\, and will be free and open to the public. The event is part of Johnson City’s annual Lights Spectacular celebration. It will take place outdoors at 200 Elm Street on the block where Lyndon Johnson grew up. \nChristmas was a special time for President and Mrs. Johnson and their family. The National Park Service carries on the Johnson family’s tradition by making this season special for locals and out-of-towners alike. Activities on December 8 will feature Christmas traditions from the 1860s through the 1960s—from the time of the president’s grandparents to the years of Lyndon Johnson’s presidency. Visitors can tour the president’s lamp-lit boyhood home just across the street from the Pedernales Electric Cooperative headquarters\, where thousands of lights will illuminate stately live oak trees. The park is delighted to host this event through a partnership with Friends of Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park. \nActivities at the outdoor event on December 8 include: \n\ncountry music and holiday songs with John Arthur Martinez from 6:30 to 8:30 pm.\nan 1860s chuck wagon with cooking demonstrations\, and cowboy Christmas stories and poetry.\nhands-on late 1800s and early 1900s-era frontier Texas Christmas crafts for children.\nscreenings of the 1965 release of “A Charlie Brown Christmas” on an outdoor movie screen.\ndisplay of Model T Ford automobiles\, like the one President Johnson’s father drove around the Hill Country as a state legislator\, often with young Lyndon accompanying him.\nlamplight tours through President Johnson’s boyhood home\, decorated for a 1920s Christmas.\na Western National Parks Association sales area.\nan exhibit on Congressman Lyndon Johnson making Lights Spectacular a future reality with the creation of the Pedernales Electric Cooperative.\n\n \nJohn Arthur Martinez is a country music artist from Marble Falls\, Texas\, who has played to audiences around the world. He acknowledges that he is fortunate to make a living from making music. “I write\, record\, and perform songs. And\, in doing so\, I bare my soul\, meet new souls\, and see the world\,” said Martinez. Join Martinez and his band as he sings his songs as well as holiday music.
