Celebrate the Night Sky on Saturday, March 5th at the free, family-friendly Texas Night Sky Festival to be held at Dripping Springs Ranch Park. It is not too late to show your support! Sponsors have until February 5th to be included in the event publicity. The Hill Country Alliance is a sponsor. Won’t you be one too?
With something for everyone, the Festival will kick off at 3 pm with fun activities, a display of selected entries in the event’s photo and art contests, solar observations, a mobile planetarium, exhibits from our Texas Dark Sky Places, demonstrations of good lighting, tasty food, and a good old-fashioned Star Party. There will be engaging exhibits with hands-on activities providing the opportunity to earn scouting badges and patches for everyone. Speakers will weave tales of the night sky from the Lakota tradition, and from Greek and Roman mythology. Author Paul Bogard will capture your attention with his beautiful words about the night sky. The Festival will conclude at 10 pm after everyone has viewed the stars through the volunteer’s wonderful telescopes.
Non-exhibitors may be included as sponsors by sending a tax-deductible donation of $50 or more to IDA Texas, P.O. Box 177, Dripping Springs, TX 78620 by February 5th. Exhibitors may download, then submit, the sponsors packet from www.TexasNightSkyFestival.org.
Hosted by the International Dark-Sky Association Texas Section (IDA Texas), Hays County Chapter Texas Master Naturalists and the City of Dripping Springs, the intent of the festival is to increase appreciation of the night sky and promote the protection and enjoyment of one of the Earth’s most beautiful and natural resources. See you there!
