The play features Indigenous dances, shares ancient traditions, and presents an alternative, Native-origin story about the first bluebonnets and sacred springs in Texas. A panel discussion after the event will allow attendees to learn more about the play, Coahuiltecan history, and plans for a new Indigenous Cultures Center. Popcorn, light snacks, and drinks will be provided.
Yana Wana’s Legend of the Bluebonnet is a beautiful, original play that illustrates the power of heritage and the value of your people’s story – especially one as ancient as the flowing springs and petroglyphs of Texas. The story follows 13-year-old María as she learns from her Coahuiltecan grandmother about her cultural history and ancestral connection to both water and the bluebonnet.
The event is pay-what-you-can, and all donations will go towards supporting a new Indigenous Cultures Center at the headwaters of the San Marcos River.
