Environmental advocates are pushing back against the city of Kyle’s plan to expand its wastewater treatment plant — a step city leaders say is necessary to keep up with rapid population growth.

Kyle  — which is in northern Hays County, between San Marcos and Austin  —  is seeking permission from state regulators to increase how much treated effluent it puts into Plum Creek from an average of 4.5 million gallons per day to 9 million gallons, then ultimately up to 12 million.
