HCA Distributes Flood Recovery Seeds to Hill Country Landowners | Kerr County Lead
Native grasses and wildflowers can play an important role in restoring land damaged by flooding. Hill Country Alliance partnered with the Kerr EDC Long Term Recovery River Working Group, with funding from the Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country, to provide grass seeds to landowners and land stewards whose riparian areas were affected by the July 2025 floods. Local experts curated the restoration seed blends to include species suited to stabilizing soil and helping prevent erosion. These include Blackwell Switchgrass, Alamo Switchgrass, Van Horn Green Sprangletop, Sand Dropseed, Haskell Sideoats Grama, and Maximilian Sunflower. Seed was made available in four- and eight-pound bags. An eight-pound bag covers approximately one acre, or about 800 linear feet of waterfront when applied across a 50-foot-wide area.
